What is medical massage?

December 1 2014

When massage is applied to treat a specific diagnosed condition, it is called medical massage.  At its simplest, it’s any massage that is not just general relaxation massage. But, quality medical massage is so much more. Medical massage is a specific treatment focusing on a specific conditions. Treatment goals are usually discussed at the start of treatment.

Gratitude and joy

November 15 2014

In a world that sells dissatisfaction, it’s almost heretical to feel happy about your body. And on the rare occasion when body satisfaction is socially acceptable, it’s usually in the context of “Dang, I look amazing in my wedding dress/tailored business suit/perm/bathing suit/whatever I just spent a lot of money on in order to make me feel this way for a couple of hours.” For all the sunshiny Facebook messages telling you “You’re beautiful!” there’s not much to make us feel legitimately joyful to be in our own skins.

Cancellation and inclement weather policy

November 1 2014

I have been fortunate to have had few no shows and last minute cancellations. You guys are the BEST CLIENTS EVER!! Overall, you all are pretty awesome and always give me notice. But, with winter upon us and the inevitability of snow days in our near future, I wanted to do a quick review of the general cancellation policy and how bad weather fits in.

The rotator cuff is not a thing

October 15 2014

Have you ever heard about a sports player having a rotator cuff injury? Or maybe you had one yourself? Guess what? The rotator cuff is not a thing. Rather, it’s not an actual body part.

How does the schedule work?

October 1 2014

There have been some questions recently about how my schedule works, and some times when I have had to say "No" when you want to book a session. So, I thought I'd talk about how the schedule works so we can make sure you get the sessions you need when you need them.

Massage and anxiety

September 19 2014

Anxiety Disorders affect about 40 million American adults in a given year. Anxiety is described as a feeling of dread, fear, or apprehension often with no clear justification. Most people experience symptoms of anxiety at one time or another, but for those with a disorder, normal daily life is often interrupted and limited.

A bit about prenatal massage

September 10 2014

Pregnancy is a normal and healthy state of being for a woman’s body.  Though, with the changes that occur in a pregnant woman’s body, some days it may not feel like it.

My favorite body parts to massage

August 25 2014

Believe it or not, one of my favorite things to hear from clients is “No one has ever massaged that before.” And neither of us are being even slightly inappropriate! Here are my top 5 areas to massage that may surprise you.

It’s National Relaxation Day!

August 15 2014

Business is the trend these days. People carry over-packed schedules like winning trophies. “I’m SO busy at work!” “How do you have time to do that? I’m too busy to read/watch TV/exercise/do anything fun.” “I can’t get monthly massages I have too much to DO!”

Massage and travel

August 1 2014

Now that we are closing out the summer travel season, it's a good time to talk about how massage therapy can impact how you feel while traveling and beyond. Traveling is STRESSFUL! Flight delays, airplane seats, sitting for hours in a car, traffic, hauling heavy bags and/or kids all affect your body.

Turn off your cellphone and get a massage

July 14 2014

I have clients who can barely manage to turn off/put down their cell phones for a 1 hour massage. Ahem - you know who you are! But, the “convenience” of technology does us a disservice.

Strength training for new runners

July 10 2014

I used to be an avid runner. I ran my first mile (outside of PE class) when I was about 29 years old after watching my Dad (also an avid runner) complete his first marathon at age 58. I trained so hard for that first 10k and became hooked. I have never been particularly fast, or one of those people who runs every single day, but it was a regular part of my life.

Schedule a monthly massage - In ADVANCE!

May 20 2014

Scheduling your massage ahead of time ensures you can take the time you need for yourself, and gives you something to look forward to. Don't wait until you are in pain to treat it. Check out this short post on this trend from my favorite Brooklyn massage practice.
